Are you thinking about wearing contact lenses for the first time? Or, do you currently wear contact lenses but your contact lens prescription has expired? If either case, you will want to visit us at Maplewood Vision Care where you can be seen by our optometrist, Dr. Dennis J. Delesio, for a new contact lens prescription; our optician Hillside can also talk to you about the different contact lens options available to you.

Today there are many different contact lenses offered by our optician Hillside. At our vision practice you can purchase both hard lenses and soft lenses. Today, most patients who wear contact lenses have their vision corrected with soft lenses because soft lenses are extremely comfortable and easy to get used to. They also come in many different styles to help meet your everyday needs. However, some patients still feel that they receive the best vision correction from hard contact lenses. This may be especially true if you have astigmatism. Contact lenses can also now be bifocal, which means that you can have two different distance corrections in one pair of contact lenses. This can mean that you do not need to use reading glasses anymore in order to see clearly, close-up. Soft contact lenses come in different styles including disposable lenses, daily wear lenses, extended wear lenses, and color-changing lenses. Disposable lenses are worn once and then replaced with a new pair. Daily wear lenses are worn during the day and then removed at night to clean the lenses and to rest your eyes. Extended-wear lenses can be worn for many days before they need to be removed for cleaning. And, color-changing lenses can make it appear as though the color of your iris has changed. Our optician helps you determine which the best color-changing lens to purchase is in order to receive the color change that you are seeking.

There is no appointment needed to come in to meet with our optician Hillside. For an appointment to see our optometrist for a vision exam, simply contact our office.

Perhaps you are getting contact lenses for the first time. Or, perhaps you have not had a contact lens exam in several years and need to receive one to get a new prescription. In any event, patients can have a thorough contact lens exam and fitting at our office. Our optometric physician is Dr. Dennis J. Delesio. He has expertise in many areas of eye care, as well as being highly experienced in fitting patients with contact lenses – even patients who are hard to fit. If you are planning on getting new contact lenses, you will want to be seen by our Hillside optometrist at our Maplewood Vision Care center.

After our optometrist has performed a complete contact lens exam and fitting, he will talk to you about the different types of contact lenses available. There are many different types of contact lenses manufactured today and many offer different benefits for different vision situations. Today most patients wear soft contact lenses because these lenses are very comfortable and extremely easy to get used to. Even patients with astigmatism can find comfortable and effective soft contact lenses. However, our Hillside optometrist will still prescribe gas permeable lenses (hard lenses) for some patients, as they may still provide sharper vision in certain cases of severe nearsightedness or astigmatism.

Soft contact lenses also come in a variety of types for the consumer. Our optometrist will talk to you about which contact lenses will work best with your lifestyle. Daily wear lenses are contact lenses that are worn during the day and are then removed at night for cleaning. This will also give time for the eyes to rest. You do not sleep in these contact lenses. If you are interested in getting contact lenses that you can sleep in, there are extended wear contacts. These contacts can be worn many days at a time without needing to be removed for cleaning. Today there are also disposable contact lenses which are worn once for a short period of time such as a day, and then thrown away; the lens wearer will always have a fresh new pair of contact lenses to wear. We even offer color changing lenses which allow patients to have it appear as though the color of their eyes have changed. These lenses can be either vision correcting or non-vision correcting in nature. However, prescriptions are still needed to ensure proper fit of these lenses, even if they do not offer vision correction. If you would like to see our Hillside optometrist for a contact lens exam and fitting, contact our office today.

At our practice, Maplewood Vision Care, our outstanding optometric physician is Dr. Dennis J. Delesio. Our Union NJ optometrist will let you know about the different lens options that are available to work well with your prescription needs and lifestyle. There are many different contact lens types and brands available today, and some may fit your needs better than others. If you have astigmatism in your eyes, Dr. Delesio will most likely recommend either toric soft lenses or rigid gas permeable (hard) lenses. However, today most patients do choose to work with soft-lenses because they are much easier to get used to, more comfortable to wear, and available in different varieties. Soft contact lenses are also available as multi-focal lenses, combining vision correction with bi-focal prescriptions. Soft lenses can be: daily wear lenses to be worn up to 18 hours and removed at night for cleaning and to rest the eyes; extended wear lenses that can be worn overnight for several days; disposable lenses that are thrown out after one wear – the wearer always has a fresh pair of contacts; and color changing lenses for patients who want it to appear that the color of their eyes has changed. However, there are times when hard contact lenses may offer sharper vision for patients with severe nearsightedness or astigmatism. If you would like to be seen by our optometrist, contact our office today.
