If you wear contact lenses, you are more likely to develop an eye infection, especially a potentially dangerous eye infection called keratitis. Some signs of keratitis include: redness, itchiness, eye pain, and a discharge from the eye. It is important that if you have any symptoms of an eye infection that you immediately come in to see our emergency eye doctor so that you can get treatment. When it comes to emergency eye problems, the old adage is certainly true that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Eye infections can often be easily treated with antibiotic eye drops in order to avoid serious vision problems from developing. If you have a sudden increase in the number of floaters in your eyes, and you are experiencing flashes of light, you may have a retinal tear. A retinal tear can easily lead to a retinal detachment so it is important that this vision problem is seen on an emergency basis. Many eye injuries are caused by trauma which can include a scratch to the surface of the eye; this is called a corneal abrasion. A corneal abrasion can occur when a patient gets poked in the eye, or rubs their eye when they have dust in it. Corneal abrasions can cause severe sensitivity to light and eye redness. A scratch can make your eyes susceptible to bacterial or fungal infections, and can cause serious vision problems in as little as 24 hours.

Eye infections should not be ignored, as they require expert care and treatment. Here at Maplewood Vision Care, you can depend on our 07040 emergency eye doctor to be your specialist when it comes to the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of eye infections.

Conjunctivitis, also called “pink eye,” begins with inflammation but can easily result in an infection. It is contagious, easily transmitted from one person to another. Some of the more common symptoms that are associated with conjunctivitis are eye redness, itching or burning in the eye, unusual sensitivity to light, blurred vision, excessive production of tears, and either yellow, green or white discharge, for which you should consider the matter particularly urgent for being examined by our 07040 emergency eye doctor. Conjunctivitis can be either bacterial or viral in nature, or it can be the result of an allergy or an irritant; and it is essential to determine which in order to identify the type of treatment that is required. The same is true of another eye infection, keratitis. Instead of your conjunctiva, however, your cornea is the part of your eye that becomes infected. Keratitis is often results from wearing contact lenses. And just as with the causes, so too are the symptoms of keratitis similar to the ones you would experience with conjunctivitis. Any type of eye infection needs to be addressed in a timely fashion, so when you notice any of the signs listed above, our 07040 emergency eye doctor has the skills and experience to handle the matter. There is no reason to put the well-being of your eyes or your vision at risk. Treatments for eye infections are effective, safe, and fast.

Call our optical store and let us schedule an examination for you as quickly as possible. We’re here for you when you need us the most.

07040 Myopia Cure

07040 Myopia Cure

07040 Myopia Cure

If you cannot see well close up, you probably have nearsightedness, also known as myopia. At our Maplewood Vision Care, Dr. Dennis J. Delesio, our therapeutic licensed optometric physician, offers different treatments that may offer a 07040 myopia cure.

When a person has myopia they can see nearby objects more closely than objects which are far away. If you have severe nearsightedness you can only see objects which are a few inches away, but if you have mild nearsightedness, you may see objects clearly which are as far as 20 feet away. Nearsightedness can develop slowly or quickly, and usually worsens during childhood and adolescence. Nearsightedness tends to run in families, so if you are nearsighted you will want to make sure that your children are checked for this refractive error; it is easily diagnosed during a comprehensive eye exam by our optometrist. If you are tired of your child needing to experience worsening myopia, there are several things that can be done to control myopia progression during childhood and adolescence. Our optometrists can provide treatments which will cause certain changes to take place in the structure of the eye to slow myopia progression. Myopia has been connected with detached retinas and cataracts, so if possible you will want to have your child receive one of these treatments. Our optometrists offers atropine eye drops, multifocal contact lenses, orthokeratology treatment, or multifocal eyeglasses, all of which have shown great promise for controlling the development of nearsightedness and children. Our optometrist can meet with your child and determine which type of treatment may work best and possibly offer a 07040 myopia cure in his or her particular case. Orthokeratology is an exciting treatment that uses contact lenses which are worn at night, to gently reshape the cornea so that the child will not need to wear any type of lens correction during the day. Some studies have shown that this actually also reduces the development of myopia in children.

For an appointment to have your child meet with our eye doctor for a 07040 myopia cure, contact us today.

Union Eye Testing

Vision Exam in Union

Union Eye Testing

Union Eye Testing

For a complete and thorough eye exam, you can count on us at Maplewood Vision Care. Our optometrist will check your vision to determine if you need a new or updated prescription to achieve the best eyesight that you’re capable of. Furthermore, our Union eye testing will also screen you for the most common eye diseases. And since so many eye conditions do not have any symptoms associated with them in their early stages, coming in once per year for an eye exam is the best way to maintain the well-being of your eyes or to restore your optimal eye health if a problem is diagnosed. And just remember, the sooner you come in, the sooner you can be enjoying improved vision.

Even if you already wear corrective lenses, you need to bear in mind that your vision is always changing and your needs today could be different than they were when you first got your glasses or contact lenses. If your existing prescription is still working for you, we will find that out, too. But sometimes there can be subtle signs and you might feel as if you’re seeing okay. But okay is not the same as the best, is it? Thats’s why you need our Union eye testing. And if you have never worn prescription lenses before, an eye exam could reveal that you are nearsighted, farsighted, have an astigmatism, or some combination of these. Luckily, they can all be addressed simply and effectively with glasses or contact lenses.

Two of the most common eye problems are cataracts and glaucoma. As part of our Union eye testing, we will do a tonometry test to measure your internal eye pressure, the baseline test for glaucoma. A slit-lamp exam is the equivalent for cataracts. Other tests will be conducted as needed to form a diagnosis. And if applicable, you will also be tested for macular degeneration (age 40 and older), and diabetic retinopathy (if you have type one or type two diabetes). And we can even find clues to your health outside of your eyes. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes may be revealed through our examination of your optical blood vessels.
